A golf shoe should complement the golfer, the swing and the insole — not work against them. We assess shoes on two independent dimensions: structural stiffness and groundsense. A stiff shoe can still feel filtered; a soft shoe can still feel very connected.
Best for golfers prioritising walkability, cushioning and reduced fatigue. Avoid assuming “softer is always better”: the shoe still needs enough shape and fit security to let the custom insole do its job.
For most golfers, we favour a balanced platform: enough structure for repeatable movement, useful traction and clear ground interaction without excessive rigidity or cushioning. This is normally the safest pairing with a performance insole.
